Roaring of a Lion - Amos

Everyone remembered the year of the earthquake. It had come unexpectedly and shaken the earth, destroying buildings with its irresistible force. In a few, never-to-be-forgotten moments ancient granduer became rubble. The people of God were left stunned. But the earthquake was only physical. Two years before a warning of a deeper shaking of foundations had been given by an obscure farmer from the highlands of Tekoa. Amos appeared to announce a more threatening sound--the voice of God. All round the Near-East the roar of the Divine Lion sounded; Amos heard it and was compelled to prophesy. His words of judgment on the nations and on the professing church echo through the centuries and speak again today with unnerving relevance to contemporary society.
