The purpose of these volumes has been to introduce to the average non-academic person the field of New Testament scholarship, and to explain to the reader its terms and methods. This will provide a firm foundation for their studies in the Scripture or further studies in higher education. This, the second volume in the series concerning the Person of Christ, has as its focus, The Son of God and The Word of God in the setting of John’s Gospel.
Centuries ago, the Bible was generally believed, and its essential doctrines were accepted at face value. But that has changed with modern scholarship rejecting the miraculous, yet regarding the Gospels as a mere reference book about Jesus of Nazareth, setting Him forth as a genuine historical figure, a great prophet, teacher, and reformer – but nevertheless, a mere man. Thus, the Jesus of History is embraced and Christ of Scripture and the ancient creeds reject. The aim of this volume is to endeavour to show the error of this view and provide correction and evidence that the historical Jesus and the Jesus of the miraculous are one and the same.
