Louisa Payson Hopkins (1812-1862) was the firstborn daughter of Rev. Edward Payson, and older sister of Elizabeth Payson Prentiss (author of Stepping Heavenward). Told as a series of dialogues between a pastor and his daughter, Maria, this book contains the substance of conversations actually held between Rev. Payson and Louisa. These stories present biblical truth in an endearing manner and model the important duty of bringing the gospel to our children.
